H96 Max H2 H96 Max H2 Review

H96 Max H2 Front View

This is the H96 Max H2 Rockchip RK3328 Android 4K TV Box. Many of us in the TV box arena have grown weary to seeing so many TV boxes on the market with little to no difference from each other. The H96 Max H2 isn’t much different from the competition, what I can say though is that we have grown accustomed to seeing boxes in the H96 line running on Amlogic hardware, whereas this model runs on a Rockchip chip-set. So in this article review I will show you the usual system and hardware information, and my final thoughts with benchmark scores.

Software Environment

If you have seen the H96 Pro+ and H96 Max hexa core model, you would notice the H96 Max H2 is no different. The Launcher and or user interface (UI) as its correctly called, is no different from its previous models. The launcher is exactly the same with features like the ability to add shortcuts to the launcher, and a navigation bar and status bar for easy navigation and multitasking. So what’s different this model? Well the few thing I noticed different was that despite not having DRM support to stream certain online movie service in 4K quality, the developers of this box found a work around by including the Android TV versions of Netflix and YouTube, which allows you to play movies and streams in 4K quality. The 4K video sample playback was really good with a slight difficulty with the jellyfish video at 400Mbps bitrate. 3D gaming was good but don’t expect very high frame rates. The box is rooted, but keymapping application permissions are not working well.

Closing Thoughts

The H96 Max H2 is a good performing TV box very little to complain about. This model almost feels like a remake of the H96 Pro+ model, it’s a great online movie streamer, it plays 4K video samples really well, and 3D gaming is good within its given hardware. Netflix and YouTube can play in 4K quality with the app version found on the Aptoide app store, and the box is rooted with the ability to install any app you like from the Google Play store or via APK download.

On the down side, I couldn’t find much of a problem, only that it comes with an Infrared remote control, the 2.4GHz WiFi band recorded slower speed than the 5.8GHz band, one of the 4K jellyfish videos had some difficulty playing, and I couldn’t get my key-mapping application to work under the given root superuser permissions.
